Food waste is a worldwide issue, and I don’t know about you, but I’m not here for it. Luckily I’ve got some comforting news: you can help reduce food waste in a direct and easy way through the genius app To Good to Go. Hint: you might have to explore all of Valencia’s deliciousness.

nowing there are so many people in the world who don’t have enough food, or who don’t even have access to food, the last thing you wanna do is throw it away, right? It makes me feel sad and guilty, it’s just so unnecessary. Besides that, to me, it feels like flushing my money down the toilet or putting my favorite skincare product in the trash. Ouch.  I’m trying to be very conscious about it and I’ve found some ways to reduce food waste. But there is another direct, delicious, and simple way to do this ;-)

⅓ of the world’s food is wasted. Reducing food waste is one of the most important things we can do to reverse global warming. Thinking of ways to help can be a little overwhelming, so often times we don’t even start. However, small steps make big changes, especially if we all take the walk together.

Unsold fresh food
Now, some geniuses came up with the idea to connect people to restaurants or stores that need to get rid of their unsold fresh food. That’s how the app To Good To Go was born. It’s great for restaurants and stores, as they get a bit of money for their leftovers, it’s great for the planet as we reduce food waste, and great for you as you get some delicious treats for a really good price. This is a great option if you’re on a budget. Madre mía, what a concept.

How the app works
It’s really simple. You download the app, create an account and check if your favorite local restaurant or store offers some leftovers. There’s a specific pickup time, so make sure to double-check that before you order something.
You then choose a surprise box, go to the restaurant or store and show them your order confirmation. You pay through the app beforehand – you can do that with Apple Pay, your credit card, or Paypal account. Ya está! If only everything in life was that simple...

Go get ‘em, anti-food waste tigers ;-)

A box full of surprises
It’s always a surprise what’s in the box, which makes it more fun. You can read in the descriptions what you can expect, for example – a variety of pastries, horchata, salad.
If you have any allergies or special preferences, such as vegetarian or vegan food, do contact the restaurant to ask what’s in the box. I ordered some really delicious ones from my favorite places like Dulce de Leche and Fornelino, let’s say I was definitely not disappointed.

Free advice:

  • If you want to continuously reduce your food waste: make some delicious meals from leftovers, don’t buy too much at once, and make friends with your freezer.
  • Check the app before you plan to order something through the regular food delivery/takeaway apps. You won’t be able to order something specific, but you might get a much better deal.
  • Bring your own bag when you pick up your order. We’re trying to help the planet here, aren’t we?
