We all know that American food is wildly popular around the globe. I mean, who doesn’t love munching on fast food from time to time? Imagine a world without tasty burgers, what a sad world that would be. Now, you might not be a fan of typical fast-food restaurants, but maybe you are longing for a mouthwatering snack. So, here’s the good news: restaurant Chick Shack offers fresh and homemade American snacks. Who’s ready to lick their fingers?
I

n the heart of the neighborhood Ruzafa, there is an authentic American restaurant we really love. You can often find us chilling on their terrace - whether we’re craving a typical American snack, a fancy cocktail, a glass of Vermut, a delicious IPA, or some good old American breakfast. And you know what the best thing about their terrace is? It has a big, beautiful tree and some parasols, which means you can sit in the shade during the hot Valencian Summer. We love us some green, especially if that means we won’t turn into drunk tomatoes.

Fresh ingredients
At first, I thought this was just an average bar with not-so-unique snacks and dishes. But boy, was I wrong. Once I tried their burgers and cheese-bacon fries, I knew this was gonna be one of my guilty pleasures. My mouth actually starts to water while I’m typing this.
The great thing about Chick Shack’s food is that everything is homemade. They only use fresh ingredients and you can definitely taste that. It’s not your typical, super greasy kind of fast food. Their chicken is cooked at a low temperature for 90 minutes before it actually reaches your table. I mean, that says something, right? Maybe it’s not really fast food after all, but we’re in Spain… so 90 minutes might be considered fast.

What’s on the carta?
They have menus in both English and Spanish, which is helpful if your Spanish is not that great. But what’s on the carta? Well, lots of things: burgers, salads, chicken, special fries, little snacks, pancakes, waffles, donuts, milkshakes, and much more American deliciousness. If you love sauce, this is heaven for you - they have lots of different homemade sauces.

Chick Shack’s concept is quite unique: you can create your own burger. They call them bad dogs - which is a bit confusing because you would think you’d get a hot dog, but this is not the case. So, how does that work? First, you choose the ingredients you want, then you choose the kind of wrapping: a burger bun, wrap, or waffle. After that, you choose the type of meat, and last but not least: some extras like crunchy bacon, fried egg, etc.

The crunchier, the better.

Good vibes, great service & street musicians
Let’s talk vibes, shall we? Because they’re really good! The owner is very friendly and has one of the cutest dogs ever - no, I’m not talking about his hot dogs.
Let’s not forget the rest of the hard-working and kind staff, they offer great service.

It’s usually very crowded on the weekends - lots of people go for a drink and you’ll often find some street musicians playing a happy tune. After a few cocktails, some people start to dance. I love when these spontaneous things happen, and lucky me: it happens very often at Chick Shack. If you’re not a fan of a little fiesta during the weekend, this is probably not the place for you.

Our favorites
We’re so enthusiastic about this place that we obviously have to share our favorites with you. We love the bacon-cheese fries, pancakes, poutine fries, cookies cheesecake, chicken wings, fried cheese fingers, and grilled chicken breast.
It’s hard to tell you what our favorite burger is, as there are so many options to choose from. I think you’d have to give it a try yourself and create your own, mouthwatering burger.
As for drinks, we really enjoy their IPA’s, cocktails (especially gin & tonic, we love Puerto de Indias - this is strawberry gin), and Vermut.

Now that’s what I call a plate full of American tastiness.

Free advice:

  • Don’t forget to make a reservation if you’re planning to grab a bite here, it’s really crowded on the weekends.
  • They offer delivery services through Ubereats, Glovo and Justeat. If you’re looking for a takeaway, you can order here.
  • On a budget? They have happy hour from 16.00 to 18.00 every day. Olé!
  • They’re very dog-friendly and always offer our little friends some water, so don’t hesitate to take your dog with you.
