Oh, how many memories we’ve made on this beautiful, famous plaza. From just chilling on the benches and registering at the town hall to dancing until the morning at gay pride, we’ve done it all.

urrounded by beautiful typical Spanish buildings, palm trees, cute flower shops, fountains, and cozy orange streetlights during the evening. It’s no surprise that this is one of the most famous plazas in Valencia.

Centrally located
It’s located right in between the town hall (Ayuntamiento) and post office (Edificio de Correos). Close to the train station (Estación del Norte) and Bullring (Plaza de Toros.) All these buildings are worth visiting as well, you might think: “What’s so special about a train station and post office?” Well, Spaniards know how to make boring things more fun, and these buildings are no exception. They are absolutely gorgeous, just like lots of Spanish men. But that’s not it! This famous plaza is close to the Central Market (Mercado Central) and main shopping street Calle Colon as well. So if you’re wondering if Plaza del Ayuntamiento is centrally located, yes it absolutely is.

Pedestrian area
This has been a pedestrian area since May 2020, which is especially great for families with young children. A great change if you’d ask me.
I remember walking in the middle of the street after some events on the plaza before it turned into a pedestrian zone. I loved that so much. Those were the only times when there were no cars. It gave me the ultimate feeling of freedom, there’s just something about walking in the middle of the street. Don’t worry, I’m safe ;-)

Bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops
Next to the plaza, you can find lots of bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. Keep in mind that most places are quite overpriced, though. This is because it’s a very touristic area. When you go to Rome and order a cappuccino right in front of the Vatican, you don’t expect to pay €0,50 either, right? So it makes sense.
If you don’t mind that it’s quite overpriced: great! If you do: just make a detour and discover the cute alleys. You’ll find other great places where you can eat, drink and shop for a much better price.

Enjoy the bright blue skies and beautiful buildings of Valencia while relaxing on a bench.

Events
This plaza is not your typical “cozy square”, it’s very wide, but this makes it a great location for events. And oh boy, do they have events! I will list some of them down below.
If you want to know more, scroll through our event page

  • Christmas market & ice rink: have you ever seen Spaniards on ice skates? This is your chance!
  • Firework shows during Fallas (Europe’s biggest street festival)
  • Gay pride
  • Markets
  • Outdoor Cinemas during Summer
  • Festivals (we love the Basement parties)
  • Concerts

A surprise is always around the corner in this city. Spontaneous nights out mostly turn into the best memories.

Free advice

  • Grab a drink at Ático Ateneo Lounge and enjoy an amazing view. This is a rooftop bar and viewpoint which is located next to the plaza.
Entrance costs €3,-, but you’ll get a discount on a drink when you show your ticket at the bar.
  • Check out the town hall and post office, these buildings are gorgeous.
  • Go for a stroll on the plaza during the evenings, you’ll see the beautifully lit fountains and cozy orange street lights.

So, be there or be square, pun absolutely intended.

Un abrazo,

Stephanie
