ith the incredible sunsets in Valencia, it’s absolutely no punishment if someone invites you to a rooftop bar. Always say yes, even if you’re afraid of heights (like May and I). Sometimes you need to get high on life, you know.
Ático Ateneo Lounge is a rooftop bar in the city center which is located on top of the Ateneo Mercantil de Valencia.
I absolutely love rooftop bars, and I’ve only recently discovered this one. There’s just something magical about watching sunsets on a roof as you sip on a cocktail. And no, that’s not because of the alcohol ;-)
If you haven’t noticed already, I’m very in love with Valencia, and going to places like this makes me want to commit to a serious relationship with this city forever. It’s so lovely to see it from a different point of view, literally.
From the terrace, you can see the town hall and Plaza del Ayuntamiento, which are both total gems. Try to find a spot in front, so you can actually see them and catch some sun. To watch the great architecture of Valencia’s beautiful historical buildings, go up to the viewing point.
How to get to the top
So, how do you get to the top? That’s a question many people ask themselves. Okay, all jokes aside, simply enter Ateneo Mercantil de Valencia and take the elevator to the top floor. Once you’re there, you have to pay a €3,- entrance fee. When you show your ticket at the bar, you get a discount on your drink. Sounds good, right?
Drinks & tapas
You’re probably wondering if the drinks at Ático Ateneo Lounge are just as good as the views. The answer is: yes, friend, they are. You should definitely try some of their cocktails, ice-cold beers, or jarras de sangría.
It’s no surprise that there’s a nice selection of tapas too, we’re in Spain, after all. Is drinking without having at least one tapa even allowed here?
Safe & sound
Somehow I keep singing “started from the bottom now we’re here”, and I know, I’m definitely not the only one in the world who’s making that joke. Anyway, if you’re afraid of heights, going to a rooftop bar might not be your first choice, but don’t sweat it - this one feels (and is) very safe.
- If you wanna make sure you can enjoy the best views, go before or after Spanish mealtimes so you can find a good spot.
- For people who are on a budget: don’t forget to claim your discount. This place is a bit on the pricey side.
- Unfortunately, you won’t be able to see the sunset in Summer, as they close quite early. So do check their opening hours!
